FUT Technique

During the FUT technique, a strip of skin is taken from the donor area. This strip is then gradually dissected to create the micro-grafts, each one of which consists of one to three hair follicles. The micro-grafts are then inserted using microsurgical instruments and magnifying glasses.

In a normal operation that lasts about 3-4 hours we are able to place between 1300 and 1500 micro grafts, which means about 3000 hair follicles. This depends on the density of the graft and on the condition of the recipient area (e.g. a completely bald area makes it easier for us to place many grafts more quickly, whereas in the case of thickening there are technical difficulties). From a large number of hair follicles, two to three hair stems grow simultaneously. This results in the final number of hairs being greater than the number of hair follicles transplanted.

At our clinic, we can perform the FUT technique more than once, for candidates with appropriate scalp laxity, as we remove and reshape the previous linear scar.

You can expect the results of your hair transplant to be visible between 6-12 months after the procedure, with continued maturation of the hair quality for up to 18 months.

In recent years, FUT method is becoming less popular. This is due to the development of the FUE, which is minimally invasive compared to the FUT. In the FUT method, a STRIP is taken, which may leave a scar. An experienced Surgeon can achieve a barely visible scar, which will be covered by hair and will not be visible at all.
The direct FUE method that we apply at Direct Hair Clinic is preferred over the FUT, and is the main method recommended in the individualized treatment plan.
