WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE?

The background of each patient and the quality of their hair are important factors that determine whether someone is considered a good candidate for the procedure. In practice, men and women of any age from 18 years and above can undergo a hair transplant procedure, with the exception of patients with very serious health issues.

Hair loss stage

If a person's hair loss has progressed to stage 3 or above on the Norwood scale, then you are a good candidate for a hair transplant, as long as the pattern has stabilized.

Characteristics of the hair

There are several hair characteristics that may make you a good candidate for a hair transplant. Factors such as color, texture, and shape affect the aesthetic outcome.

Hair color

Hair color is one of the biggest factors that determine how noticeable the result is due to the contrast between hair color and scalp color. The greater the contrast, then the more visible is the thinning. Those with similar hair and skin color, (i.e. dark skin and dark hair) seem less bald than those with a distinctive contrast. This means they are good candidates for a hair transplant procedure.

Hair Density

Those who have good hair density tend to be good candidates for hair transplant surgery. In particular, doctors prefer good hair follicle density in the donor area (the back and sides of the head). Conversely, those who do not have good hair density are probably not good candidates for hair transplantation. You need to have moderate to high density, in order to be able to donate hair follicles for a hair transplant procedure.

Thickness of hair

The thickness of the hair may determine whether a hair transplant will be successful or not. Those with thick hair need fewer grafts to obtain a good and natural result compared to those with thinner hair.

Elasticity of the scalp

The elasticity of the scalp, also known as laxity, is also something that is taken into account. If you have a tight scalp, it will be more difficult for the surgeon to remove the hair follicles and transplant them, as opposed to someone who has high laxity.

Health problems

People with very serious health problems, such as a recent stroke, or who are severely immunosuppressed, cannot undergo a hair transplant. Patients with respiratory, cardiac or other problems can undergo hair transplantation provided that the physician is aware of the conditions and guides the patient.
